Is It Worth Buying Celebrity Perfumes?

Tagged Under : , , ,

Some time ago the realm of perfume making was that of the designers and specialists. There were the big names synonymous with perfume along with the other more niche fragrance varieties. That was where it ended. However over the last couple of decades two things happened to the world of perfume. Firstly, celebrity culture exploded and secondly, someone decided it would be a good idea to get celebrities in on the act. However, whether it’s the designers or the celebs themselves who are in charge are celebrity fragrances ever as good as the designer originals?

It could be argued that when a company employs a celebrity to endorse its perfume the celeb is having little effect on the perfume itself. However, many perfume brands have gotten on fine for years without celebrity endorsement. The fact that they never had to opt into it shows that they rely more on the quality of the product itself. The fact here being that companies know they can sell perfume off of a celebrities back irrelevant of the quality, making these less reliable.

Of course some celebrities do say that they are a major part of the process from start to finish. Paris Hilton for instance claims that she plays a major part in the development process of all her cosmetics range and womens perfume. In these cases you might consider this. What do celebrities know about making perfumes? The suggestion that just because you are famous means you have good taste is quite egotistical. What you have to consider is the fact that with such a huge range available, there are bound to be a lot of duds.

Despite this, there are a variety of very popular celebrity fragrances, and it is often the case that the celebrity is just chosen as the spokesperson for an already well established line of beauty products. However, on the other hand there are an abundance of celebrities and minor celebrities who think they can cash in by flogging cheap products in an already saturated market. This can make it difficult for buyers to make a decision.

Carrera are the last brand we’re going to look at, as they’re looking set to be a hot favourite for the 2010 summer. Ideal for women or men, Carrera have become ultra cool with a wealth of celebries being spotted wearing the brand. Some notable examples would be Alicia Keys and Kanye West, both of whom have recently been seen wearing the sunglasses in recent music videos. The Carrera brand is a more alternative choice than the ones already mentioned, but their range of retro sunglasses is extremely cool and a fantastic choice for the 2010 summer.
