What’s the Difference between Regular and Designer glasses?

Designer glasses have come into their own in recent years with names like Gucci, Hugo Boss, Lacoste, Prada, Tommy Hilfiger or YSL being seen in most opticians’ windows. So what exactly qualifies glasses to bear the label “designer”?  Perhaps it’s the provenance of the name itself and the need to have a long association with the world of couture and the fashion industry.

Prada glasses are highly esteemed by opticians and fashionistas alike, but this iconic Italian brand established its fashion credentials over several decades through producing leather goods and expanding into haute couture and vintage style clothing and accessories.Perhaps to gain the appellation “designer” it’s not a case of who made them, but rather who wears them?  Celebrity and the modern media can arguably take a pair of cheap glasses and smother them in celebrity kudos that will elevate them to the status of “designer” overnight.  Celebrity endorsement can certainly make things trendy.John Lennon was instantly recognisable partially thanks to his round lens coloured Windsor style that are now much more commonly referred to as a “Lennon”.  However, these glasses could just as easily been called after Groucho Marx, Mahatma Gandhi, or Joseph Stalin, – they all wore the same style – but none of them of course were alive in a time of mass media and a burgeoning youth market.

There’s no doubt that longevity and some catwalk credibility certainly helps to gain the accolade of your products being labellled “designer”.Prada and indeed Dolce & Gabbana had a long history in fashion and haute couture before they even contemplated going anywhere near glasses frames.  But to qualify as a designer product ultimately, there must of course actually be a designer.  That could mean the inspired creation of a talented and dedicated individual, such as Raymond Stegeman, the optical designer responsible for the classic 1952 Ray Bans Wayfarer sunglass shape, or, as is more often the case, the collective team work of an entire studio full of anonymous, but equally creative, people.

Glasses Retailers Benefit From Harry Potter Release

Fashion is an ever changing and at some times strange thing. What people wear, how they live and how they act is being constantly changed by what ever is going on in the media. Whether it’s what a celebrity was seen doing in the media or whether it’s a new film release, no matter what it is, it always has an effect on the public.

The recently released Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and The Half Blood Price, is the latest thing to effect people, not just children though, people of all ages. They film has already broken a number of box office records, and just like the previous films in the series, it’s having an affect on fans that want to be like the wizard. This has lead to companies seeing a rise in Potter style clothing, in particular, glasses. Many companies, Glasses Direct being one, are benefiting from the current fashion trends. They have reported seeing a 100% rise in sales of the Harry Potter designer glasses that they sell.

Many people are finding that when they go to choose a new pair of glasses, they see the Harry Potter style frames and find that they match their personal interests aswell as their desired price. The Potter style glasses tend to be very cheap glasses because the style and design of the glasses is quite basic, this is the big reason why many people are buying them.

This was said by the founder of Glasses Direct, Jamie Murray Wells: “We always see a surge in styles to match current trends.

The new Harry Potter style is leading trends further away from think rimmed glasses. With popularity of the glasses on the rise and the cost of them so low, we could all be looking like Harry Potter in the future. Unfortunately glasses retailers haven’t yet released the Harry Potter style glasses as prescription sunglasses, we’ll all just have to squint while looking like wizards.

Tips and Tricks For Buying Sunglasses

Tagged Under : , , ,

With designer fashion and global warming all around us, having a good pair of sunglasses is a must have for both. A good pair of sunglasses will finish off your outfit and sometimes can disguise your eyes after a night on the town. As for the global warming, with temperatures and sunlight increasing, your eyes need more protection from harmful UV rays than ever before.

So now that I’ve given you some valid reasons to go shopping for sunglasses, you now need to decide on which ones are best for you. Now that’s where the difficult decisions come in.

Just like when you have to choose normal eye glasses, the decision starts with the shape of your face. The majority of people sit in 1 of 2 face shapes, either a round face, or oval face. A rounded faced person is where the length and width of their face is almost the same, more often than not, a round face person will be aware of the shape of their face. As for the other shape, oval, if you don’t think you’re a round faced person, then you’re most likely oval faced and this is simply where the length is longer than the width.

Once you have chosen which face shape you are, you can then make a decision as to which shape sunglasses you should get. If you have a rounded face then the best option for you would be a rectangular or square frame. If you do have a more rounded face then you are limited slightly because some designer companies don’t make rectangle or square glasses.

If you think you have more of an oval shaped face, then you are not limited at all, you can wear pretty much anything you want. You are not limited by any shape or size, you can opt for the bigger styles like celebrities, or maybe something a little smaller is more your taste, either one will look right.Police sunglasses or possibly you would prefer a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses, you should be able to pull it off.

If you don’t think you have an oval or a round face, then there are a couple of others that may be you. If you have more of a heart shaped face then you would be best suited to some thin rimmed aviation style glasses. Finally, if you think you have more of a square face then you want to head for some glasses which are more curved as you already have plenty of angles on your face.

Hopefully you will use this information for the better when you go to buy your next pair of sunglasses. Remember though, just because you payed alot of money for your designer glasses, it doesn’t mean they give you enough protection from the sun. Make sure that they have the sticker on them to make you aware of how well they are protecting your eyes.

Calvin Klein USB Sunglasses

We all know there is a huge range of products that people have modified into USB sticks. Whether it’s a real twig that can store 2GB of data, or maybe a broken piece of wire that deter thieves. There are hundreds of strange designs out there and now the list of wacky USB devices now has a new addition.

The new addition is a pair of sunglasses, Calvin Klein sunglasses to be correct. You might be think, how did they manage to fit a 4GB USB stick into a pair of designer sunglasses and still make them look good. Although it doesn’t make a great deal of sense why, it’s quite cool how they have managed it. They have included the USB stick and storage into the end of the right arm of the sunglasses. All you need to do is pull off the arm, plug it into your PC, Mac, Laptop or Netbook and then you are able to store a massive 4GB of memory onto the glasses.

Athough it seems strange to add a USB into something like sunglasses, but it does give them a unique selling point over a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses. Although, when you think about it, say you are on a beach and using a laptop or netbook and you require some extra storage, simply dismantle your sunglasses and store away.

Of course the major disadvantage to this product is that once you start using the USB storage, you are unable to wear them, unless you can balance them on your head using 1 and a half arms. Also, I imagine that the connection to hold the arm together is strong otherwise as you remove the glasses, the arm could fall apart. Also, I’m not sure if the USB is waterproof because if you’re using them on the beach, you don’t want to loose all your data if you get splashed, you certainly wouldn’t have that problem with Police sunglasses.

I guess the glasses do have some upsides, although they have a number of downsides too, and if you really don’t want to carry around a seperate memory stick, then these are perfect for you. However, they will cost you a fair bit. $199 is how much they will cost, although that’s priced high, I imagine you are paying mainly for the sunglass part and not the 4GB storage.
