23The cooler months are well and truly on its way and it is time for every woman to start thinking about their winter wardrobe. But how does a curvy woman dress for this time of year without resorting to oversized jackets and bulky jumpers?
The answer is simple and that is to take a few ideas from our European neighbors. Faced with near arctic winters, these people learned to quickly adopt a dressing style that was both comfortable indoors but warm for outside in even the most inhospitable weather.
Their secret was to use layering. Instead of one bulky jumper, they would use 3 or 4 layers of clothes that could be worn or taken off as the temperature dictated. Inside where it was warm with central heating they would have a simple light layer. If they needed to go outside in the middle of the day when it was not too cold, then a second layer would suffice. If they then chose to stay out after dark when the temperature plummeted, a 3rd or 4th layer would be added.
You can use the same styling effect to build your winter wardrobe. For a stylish business outfit, start with a simple plus size dress (wrap or maxi – whatever you prefer). For some winter warmth, add black or neutral covered legins or slinky pants underneath. Next, make a bold statement with some color and add a red cardigan or scarf.
And don’t forget about the hidden layers for those extra cold days. Thermal short sleeve layers are great at keeping your core body warm without adding extra bulk. High quality merino wool fabrics will leave you feeling light, will add some body shaping to your frame and are breathable (these garments breath so well that endurance athletes wear the same garment in the desert and in the snow).
