Were you aware of the different types of bras available? Surprisingly, there are 31 common bra styles, each with their own design and purpose for almost every clothing style, breast size, body shape, and even physical activity. Whew! Who would have thought that something as simple as bra coverage and support could be as diverse as a supermarket?
Here’s a sneak peek at the best 5 bra styles:
- Push Up Bra – these padded bras are framed to boost cleavage. Foam is typically used for the padding, though some styles may include gel filled or water inserts also known as cookies. The design of push up bras is quite different from a regular padded bra because the padding is centered outside the breasts to push the breasts inwards and upwards for maximum lift. The goal of the push-up bra is to amplify the breasts regardless of the size.
- Demi Bra – these are also known as half cup bras and have wide-set straps and a unique horizontal bust line. This bra style covers the lower part of the bosom and ends just above the nipples. Ideal for showing the decollete as it accentuates and frames the cleavage.
- Shelf Bra – this open bra covers the lower part of the breasts, baring the upper part and the nipples. Generally worn for romantic interludes, shelf bras provide minimal breast support and almost no coverage. This is a popular exotic lingerie style due to its sexy design.
- T Shirt Bra – this brassiere has seamless bra cups making it a perfect choice for tighter tops and shirts as it gives you a seamfree and tailored look. T-shirt bras have molded cups that are often lightly padded for a better fit.
- Training Bra – this first bra is constructed for young ladies in their pre-teen or teen years whose breasts are just starting to develop. Training bras, also known as first bras or preteen bras are smaller than standard bra sizes and the cups generally have no underwire support.
- Strapless Bra – Strapless bras are missing regular bra straps and get their support from the band and thin silicone strips carefully placed along the inside of the bra to grip the breasts. Strapless bras are designed especially for halter, strapless and party dresses and summer fashions.
- Sports Bra – these brassieres are constructed to support the breasts while you exercise with minimal bounce. From high impact activities like running to low impact activites like walking, there are a multitude of sports bras to try that have full cup coverage and wide straps to offer better support. For the best fit look for fabrics with a touch of lycra or spandex.
