The Then and Now of Pedal Pushers

Where did Pedal Pushers come from and how did they rise in fashion? Whether you like them or not, pedal pushers push their way back into the fashion world. But where did they come from? Who would’ve thought of making women’s pants only knee-length? How have they lasted through the years?

Pedal pushers were invented for the dual purpose for cyclists to cover up their legs but also make sure the pants do not get in the way of cycling. And along came the capri pant. In the 1950s when cycling was steadily become a popular sport and recreational activity, the pedal pushers were born to help cyclists, particularly female cyclists, during a time when dresses were the trend and baggy shorts were discouraged.

Gradually, the name “pedal pushers” has turned into even stranger names based on its function. Clam diggers, toreador pants and motor scooter slacks are a few of these different names. Pedal pushers have not only developed in name, but in styles of “short-long” pants. Capris in particular are one of the most commonly seen versions of pedal pushers. Capri pants were advanced by Sonja de Lennart, a European fashion designer, in 1948. Capris reach right above the feet, whereas pedal pushers are much shorter. The name and variety comes from the Italian island of Capri.

Pedal pushers have survived through the decades because of performance. As mentioned earlier, the pedal pushers are a tad shorter than capris, ending closer to the knees. Not only does this style allow liberal movement of the legs, for cyclists and non-cyclists both, but also more clothing than the average short. Their multifunctionality is supplemented by the assortment of fabrics they come in. Some of the more popular types have been jeans and stretchy legging material. They have evolved to include a wide variety of patterns and designs, officially sealing their place among essential and timeless articles of women’s clothing.

Pedal pushers were first seen on the screen when Audrey Hepburn sported them. As they gained popularity, women expanded the areas where they wore them, including sailing. The multifunctionality of the pants were popularized by Hepburn, who was often seen wearing pedal pushers in different sporting events. When capris rose as products of pedal pushers, she started dressing in them as well, often in the color black which emphasized her slim figure and distinct personality. Having an iconic personality such as Hepburn only fueled the demand for short-long pants.

Today, pedal pushers can still be seen included in the summer line of many clothing brands. They are ideal for hot weather and protection from the sun. Pedal pushers will add to your closet; buy yours now!.

StyleJunkee Takes A Look At Busy Spitalfields Market For Summer Fashion Trends

Tagged Under : , , ,

This week we went searching through the lovely Spitalfields Market in London in hope of finding the latest fashions trends that are on sale today from StyleJunkee. Whether it is retro leather bags or perfect beach accessories the market stalls didnt disappoint. And although many markets have similar stalls and ambience we have just got to say Spitalfields sets the mark. Even since the Victorian times Spitalfields was at the hub of the London scene by selling fruit and veg. On nearing the end of the twentieth century the fashion and interior design took off to the mix of vintage and one off fashion stalls that we still see today.

But why has it got this great persona about it? After all it is simply just another market in the countrys capital. But through the sheer diversity that it offers Spitalfields can and has provided an array of fashion masterpieces. Being able to find the perfect outfit at the same place as a vintage lampshade makes Spitalfields the best place around. On our trip around Spitalfields recently, we were pleased to see an array or fashionistas parading the market stalls wearing a range from nude French inspired suede lace up shoe boots to casual and very feminine day dresses that are flattering for all.

During our time around the market we were pleasantly surprised by the vast selection of mens summer trends in the style of flat caps and sleeveless knitted jumpers placing them higher on the rankings for fashion icons this summer. However we must say that our favourite of the day was the variety of summer macs available which you too can find at StyleJunkee. And amid rumours that the east end of the market may too be demolished to make way for an office complex just like its west end was in 2002 Spitalfields is still buzzing with life.

Gorgeous Swimwear for the Plus Size Woman

Tagged Under : , , , , , , ,

During the sunnier months, the last thing a woman wants to do is to worry about what bathing suit to wear. After all, why should it be that all the skinny girls have all the fun on the beach?Regular sized women have just as much right to look fabulous but at the same time don't want to cram themselves into a swimsuit that it is too small.  It is no wonder that women think that it can be difficult to buy plus size swimwear that looks good.

Timing is key and you shouldn't wait until the very last minute to go shopping for your swimsuit.  Shops can only stock a limited supply of swimsuits for the plus-sized woman and you wont be alone in wanting to make that purchase.Try to shop in the middle of the week when you can really take your time and avoid the crowds.

Fit is very important as you don't want a swimsuit that will be too tight.  When trying on a potential swimsuit make sure you test it out by doing a few twists, bends and stretches to see how if it feels comfortable and stays in place.

Your bathing suit should have plenty of control and support so it is important that you choose a suit that offers both tummy control and a supportive underwire for your breasts.Swimsuits with more lycra or spandex tend to offer better support and flexibility.

You can take the focus away from your stomach and place it on your breasts by wearing a flattering once piece swimsuit that complements your best assets. Two piece swimsuits may not be yo everyone's taste, however if you insist on wearing one do ensure that it covers up your stomach.A long halter top combined with a matching bikini bottom should provide a flattering combination.

Hopefully we have shown you that buying pretty swimwear isn't the difficult task you thought it was!
